Hypnotherapy Sessions

What to Expect from Your Hypnotherapy Sessions

Each hypnotherapy session lasts around 1 hour and can take place online via Zoom or in-person at my home therapy room in South Cambridgeshire.

Before your first session, you’ll complete a short questionnaire. This helps me tailor the session specifically to you—your triggers, goals, and strengths.

Every session is completely bespoke. My aim is to understand any unconscious patterns or self-sabotaging behaviours that may be keeping you stuck in old habits, and gently guide your mind toward positive change.

We’ll start with a friendly chat about what you’d like to focus on. Then, you’ll get comfortable—either seated or lying down—and I’ll guide you into a deep, relaxing state. You’ll stay fully in control throughout.

During hypnosis, I use techniques like metaphors, visual imagery, affirmations, and future visualisation to help rewire your subconscious mind and strengthen new, helpful neural pathways.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic practice that allows you to work with the sub-conscious part of the brain and re-wire thoughts, emotions and behaviours. The magic of hypnotherapy lies in the fact that it is a deeply relaxing process and allows for a very individualised approach to suit your inner workings, circumstances, triggers and life-style. Imagine the power of programming your brain work with you instead of against you.

What role does the sub-conscious play in my life?

The sub-conscious rules emotions, moods, beliefs, biases. This in turn affects our habits and decision making. The sub-conscious also rules physical functions such as breathing, heartbeat and body temperature. Now you know the vast areas that the sub-conscious affects your life, you can easily see how accessing and reprogramming your sub-conscious can make change so much easier and sustainable.

How does hypnotherapy compare to other “talking therapies”?

Each type of therapy has its own approach and techniques. Anedoctally, clients often contact me when they have already tried a variety of other therapies and they are grateful to find a method that has a clear start point and end point, and that is gentle and effective. Significant improvements are generally felt after one session and most people achieve a sense of resolution of their issue after three to five sessions. Hypnotherapy is very relaxing and enjoyable, so it is something clients look forward to instead of dreading. Clients tend to be appreciative of the fact that it is not necessary to continuously verbalise and unpick situations which cause them pain and upset. Of course we need to discuss the aim of the session, and the more context you are able to make available to me, the better. But we then move on to the solution and this is a very empowering process.

What issues can you treat with hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a suitable approach to treat issues such as stress, anxiety, procrastination, low mood and low confidence. It can help with achieving a healthy lifestyle by improving eating and exercise habits, and nicotine cessation. Hypnotherapy is also particularly suited to treat phobias. Common examples are phobias of the dentist, fear of flying, claustrophobia, agoraphobia, fear of water, fear of driving. Hypnotherapy is successfully used to treat the symptoms of IBS and pain management in the context of chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia. And last but not least, hypnotherapy is successfully used to program your brain for success in situations such as public speaking, sports competitions, professional exams, driving test, job interviews and anytime you want to be performing at your most confident self.
